I had to move up a weight class due to just not losing weight, but I have lost 2 inches around my waist. I also now have an official (I guess it's official)BJJ fight record of 2-1. Not bad for being me. The weight class I fought in had 64 people in it so I outlasted most of them to get to the last 16. Won the first fight with a Americana in about 6 minutes, won the second with a lapel choke in around 8 minutes and lost to a rear naked choke (silly mistakes on my part) in about 7 minutes. All in all it was a lot of fun.

lost to a rear naked choke You tapped out! You tapped out! You tapped out! Just Kidding. That's cool Naitch. Sounds like you trained hard and did yourself proud. Are you going to keep going with with it?

That's awesome man. I'm afraid to fight so I give anyone credit doing it. Win or loss you had fun and worked hard. That's what it's all about

lost to a rear naked choke You tapped out! You tapped out! You tapped out! Sure did my man. I was seconds away from taking a nap and decided it wasn't sleepy time. Just Kidding. That's cool Naitch. Sounds like you trained hard and did yourself proud. Are you going to keep going with with it? I am going to keep going. I don't care if my record ends up being 2-10,000, it was so much fun. That's awesome man. I'm afraid to fight so I give anyone credit doing it. Win or loss you had fun and worked hard. That's what it's all about I am also afraid of fighting. BJJ is more like a wrestling match then a UFC fight. It is even kinda boring to watch. In fact, this is what a high level BJJ match looks like:

I just got back from a nice needed 5 days out west in California and I started thinking about why I was there in the first place. I've been in a total rut with the freezing cold, repetitive job, and bored in the gym. I started going crazy at work and going crazy at home. While I was out there I was reflecting on what was really bothering me. For starters I have no energy and feel like shit all the time these days. They usually say when you get into a physical/mental/spiritual rut, the first thing to get that domino effect rolling it's to start physically
So the powerlifting is on hold for the moment. I said I was going to be in the best shape of my life at 35 and that's only a little over 5 months away. I'm 207lbs and I feel like absolute shit. I've been drinking a lot of diet soda to help that(not good) and not being consistent with my diet. I'm not doing terrible with it but between the diet soda and the cheating I definitely am not the 207 I want to be. I am definitely the strongest I've ever been in my life, so I feel like I don't need to be concerned with that part right now. I can alway continue that later.
So yesterday I went out and bought oatmeal, a few cartons of eggs, cans of Tuna, berries, almond milk, coconut water, sweet potatoes, bananas, more whey protein, almonds, avocados, green tea, etc...and decided I'm going to go full force on bodybuilding that consists of a body part per day, 10-15 reps divided into 4 different exercises(3-4 sets each), nothing crazy at all with the weights, just ripping the muscle. Then the rest is all cardio/treadmill. I've never followed a bodybuilding schedule to the T, and I figured this is the best route to shredding the fat and capitalizing on lean muscle mass. If I can get down to 185-190 I should be good.
But the main thing is I feel a lot better already. My plan is to work this towards a more positive and confident approach to my mental and spiritual health. I can already feel myself straightening out mentally simply because my body is feeling good and my energy came back a lot already. Right now I'm drinking green tea and just ate a hot pepper. One thing that happened in the last 36 hrs is I've been shitting A LOT lol. I mean I went like a full 10 times. When I was away I went once a day very little and ate a lot of crap. It shows you what your body retains in your system from bad dieting! There is NO WAY you can feel really physically good when you eat like that!
But I'm really going to try and stick this out and see what happens. The main thing is I want to feel good

It is really difficult to stick to a routine and do everything exactly as you intend to. Stuff just happens now and again and things get in the way. I've been a bit busy recently and inevitably things begin to slip a little. I know what you mean though about things spiralling out of control if you let them, so I try to at least still do something here and there, maybe once or twice a week, and that is usually fine. Like you though, I'm planning on tightening up a little fairly soon. I eat pretty well usually so I'm just looking to get out running a bit more regularly.

I'm actually killing it. It's been about 18 days now. I'm still around the same weight, like a 204-207 fluctuation, but I dropped a notch on my belt and I feel a lot less puffy. I was getting worried that not much was happening because my weight didn't change. But a coworker even told me today that you can see it in my face and I look like I already dropped a ton of weight. I said, that's awesome because I haven't lost a pound lol and, realistically, how much muscle could I be suddenly putting on after all these years to compensate? He told me, whatever it is, your physique changed a lot already and you look leaner. It's true though. I guess when you change your eating habits to an extremely high protein diet and you work out 5 days a week, you put on more muscle right away, then plateau later, just like with fat burning. My thing is I always let my weight discourage me because I just want to get lighter so I'll have more energy. I actually cut carbs out even more the last couple days. I feel even better doing that too. I'll tell you though, I didn't really start SEEING a change until I upped my water intake. It's like the more I've been making myself piss a day, the leaner I'm looking lol
But I'm starting to realize it's really just about following it like a textbook and the results just start taking care of themselves. You don't even have to kill yourself in the gym. Fucking diet really is like 75%

I'm actually killing it. It's been about 18 days now. GET SOME! Bro, when you do go compete, just have fun. Dudes like us doing these competition things, we are coming into this late. We are dealing with years of experience the other guy has as well. So, for ease of mind, do your best but have fun at the same time.No need to beat yourself up over something where the other guy(s) have been doing it for years.

You're right. This is kind of like my Rocky 6 right now. It's just nice to know I still "got it" and can keep it for as long as I want.
The power competition is on the back burner for now. I got really run down doing it and I took a break to do what I've been avoiding for years, really changing my eating lifestyle. Now that it's officially 3 weeks and I'm completely off diet soda, bad sugar and carbs, I feel so much better! The first 2 weeks I was cranky and discouraged. I still haven't lost any weight(I think I am transforming though) but my mind feels so clear for the first time in I can't remember. You don't realize what poisonous foods really do to you! I'm at the point where, even if the physical results don't happen, I gotta stick with this diet because my life is better on it. That's what counts.
I'm giving this bodybuilding/cardio schedule Til June 21st(just workout schedule, the eating I'm sticking to). If there's a real change in my physique I'll keep it moving. If not, I'll switch back to the power stuff simply to change it up again and maybe start training for a competition again. My goal is still to compete no higher than the 198 class for the 35 year old range. I'm still at around 205, give or take a pound or two in each direction. That weight just won't change for some reason right now. But I know there is still an unnecessary 20 lbs of fat on me which is why I'm determined to at least get under 200 to compete. I know I can maintain my numbers and still drop a weight class, which is a big deal in these competitions. I was 220 and I couldn't deadlift 400 and I got to 203 dead lifting close to 550. If I can just get back to those numbers at under 200 I'll be proud to lose at a competition. I just want to go in knowing I have no excuses.
To me, the trick isn't how strong you get, it's being at the lowest possible weight class for the amount of strength you can build. If I'm carrying 20 lbs of unnecessary body weight, I'd rather lose that weight, drop to a lower weight class while simply maintaining my strength, instead of trying to get stronger at the weight I'm at. It's smarter because you just made yourself a much bigger threat to your competition, and it's healthier in the long run too

How's everyone doing?
I'm doing really well. I just gotta keep it up. I'm currently at 198lbs now. This is pretty much my lowest in 6 years or so. But that's also the weight class qualifying weight I was trying to get down too. I haven't lost any strength either. I really believe that's a fucking myth. I'm stronger now than when I was at my highest which was around 225.
But I Still cut out the powerlifting completely for now. I'm only doing weights 3 times a week for a half hr-40 min and keeping the reps at 10-15, and the rest is all treadmill and diet. I'm just at a point where I'm sick of going to the gym for fucking years and coming out looking bloated and feeling tired. I can always go back to the power stuff later. My new goal is to see just how much bullshit weight I can cut and Then get back to the powerlifting.
Now that I'm at 198 I can see and feel in the body fat I'm still carrying around that I can definitely get down to the next weight class, which I believe is 181. I definitely have 17lbs to spare with no question. So 181lbs is my new goal. I'm not trying to get skinny. It's just time to get rid of what's not necessary. Since I don't have definite weight goals in my head I'm just going with the power lifting weight classes as my goals, really just to have a goal more so than to actually compete in that class eventually. I'm honestly bored with the power lifting and I really just want to be successful with the weight loss first and foremost. I don't even care about doing a competition right now until I accomplish this first.
I always admire when you see guys that looked like shit in their 20s, or just not that good, and look more and more awesome approaching 40. The rock is a perfect example. I hated rocks recent wwe run but when it comes to body transformation, he absolutely killed it in the last 10 yrs. I want to be THAT guy that made that transformation amongst my piers. Now is perfect timing since I'll be 35 soon

Does this mean you're going to take shitloads of steroids like The Rock too?
I actually just started up running again a couple of weeks ago. I was so fucking fed up of being tired all the time. I was kinda shocked to see how much stamina I had lost. The last serious exercise I was doing was nearly six months ago, I suddenly realised - and this was about the time I changed positions at work, where I went from a very physically demanding job to one where I sit on my ass in front of a computer 2/3rds of the day. So add it all up and I've put on 10lbs (just touching 13 stone - 182lbs) and it took me over 18 minutes to run 2 fucking miles. All considered, it could have been a lot worse.
The other change I made a few months ago was to walk to and from work instead of cycle. It takes a bit longer (although not that much longer thanks to stupid traffic) but has to be better exercise. Also I'm trying to jog home from work 3 times a week - kill two birds with one stone. It's just over 2 miles, so perfect distance.
I'm trying to cut down my calorie intake to reflect the fact that I'm burning a lot fewer at work than I was before, but it's fucking hard.
Beyond losing those 10lbs and being physically able to run 4.5 miles in 35 minutes again, I don't have any crazy goals in mind. I'm convinced my optimal weight is about 160 lbs. No interest in weight lifting, so I can't contribute anything meaningful to you Champ other than "way to go, bro".

Actually there's a lot of similarities in what we are doing. A lot has to do with our energy levels and carrying around unnecessary weight. Being that we are the same age, it's no coincidence that we are experiencing the same things that made us change.
I was(still) doing the physical job at work and doing the weights with minimal cardio and still felt like shit. Now I'm doing minimal weights and focusing on cardio and diet. I believe that's where the real energy comes from. Physically demanding work, whether at work or the gym, is taxing and tiresome. The only way you really overcome that is through good cardio conditioning and nutrition. I've noticed that whenever my cardio was at it's best and I'm at my lowest weight, that seems to be when I have the most energy to spare. It's like the longer I'm able to run for, the easier my physical days are. The weightlifting doesn't do that for me honestly
