Being out in the heat will definitely help with the weight loss.
I wasn't going to do any exercise today until I saw the moon in the sky tonight. It's a huge full moon. I must he part werewolf or something because I couldn't resist going out there and running at it.

The thing with my job is I'm up so early and I can't sit down on the job. Sometimes when I leave I'm so tired I almost feel run down and can't go to the gym. This past week, I went to the gym Monday, Tuesday I had band rehearsal, and Wednesday I was so shot I just came home and slept for 3 hours. So I went Thursday. Then Friday I have to go back to the yard and go to their office and get my check and cash it. By that time it's too late. So I went to the gym yesterday. If I can get there 3 days a week, it's good

I dropped almost 30 lbs. since late spring, early last summer. 28lbs I think to be exact(2 full stone for you Britain chaps). I almost put 40 on after my herniated disk so I'm almost back to where I was 5 years ago.
I was going to the gym 6 days a week again but now I'm back to 3-4 days a week because of my work schedule(I'm in the warehouse at Guitar Center now for a month). But I'm at my strongest and about tied for my best running. The difference is I used to run on the street and now I do it on a treadmill. I think running on the street is better for your conditioning but I don't have nearly as many problems with my shins with the treadmill.
My goal is to get down to around 175lbs(I'm around 198 now). I noticed since I'm 32 now carrying heavier weight around SUCKS. You just feel it more and it's like wear and tear. The last time I was at 175 was about 10 years ago and I wasn't really working out. I've never been 175lbs and in good shape. Plus, big and bulky is so last era lol

That's awesome, Champ. Sounds like you've worked hard.
I feel pretty good right now, I'm about 12st (168lbs) which seems to be about my natural weight. I've been exercising quite often, but have not been able to keep up a sustained period of activity. I've not been able to do much weights so I've been mostly running but I feel like I can keep going and going when I do go running. Also, I have been eating really well for a long time so even if I'm not getting the chance to spend a lot of time exercising, it's not making a difference. I don't think I've had a fizzy drink or a sweet since about Easter.
If the weather here keeps the way it's going, then going out running is going to become hard. As long as I still get out now and again though, I'll be content.
How has your diet been, Champ? Have you been losing the weight more through the exercising, or has your diet been good too?

It's only because my diet is better. I've been in the gym consistently for a year now and I gained another 10 lbs by accident from December to June. I was just eating like shit and the weight I gained probably WAS muscle(well, the 10lbs or so of muscle I lost from not doing much the previous 18 months) but I lost 0 fat. So I started cutting out sugar after morning, and carbs after noon, cut back on the weights a smidge and up'd the running a smidge, and I dropped like 23 lbs. But in the last month I've been eating a little shittier again because of my new job and the food that's been available, but my calorie intake has been like 1,000 less a day than what it was 6 months ago. So I did manage to lose like another 5 lbs. in that month. I noticed, if you do at least 3 miles of running 3 to 4 days a week and you just keep your overall calorie intake down, especially at night, you can get away with some fizzy drinks here and there and a plate of buffalo wings.
But it sounds like you're doing everything right, more so than me. I just gotta cut back a bit on the amp energy drinks(sugar, they have these awesome cherry ones at employee discounts at work) and slightly healthier lunches and it'll come off faster again

Nice going, Champ. Going to the gym 6 days a week is pretty hardcore. Keeping the calories down while still allowing yourself treats every so often seems to be a solid way to go. I'm 32 as well and I'm so glad I made the effort last year to drop all that weight and get fit. It just makes everything feel so much easier without having to carry surplus weight about. My new job is fairly physically demanding, I don't think I would have managed it when I was heavier (without huffing and puffing, anyway). I also sensed that it would only get harder to get fit than stay fit as I got older. The weather has just turned pretty cold here (though not as bad as up in Scotland) so I'll try to do a few runs here and there to keep things going. Also I cycle to work every day, about ~2.5 miles, which is helping. I've kept my weight moreorless steady this year, up a few pounds, down a few pounds, although I've mysteriously lost 4lbs in the last couple weeks and am down to 168, which is the lowest ever. If I didn't have such a sweet tooth I would have lost the last 5-8lbs I need to get into Sarita shape. ![](http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/3636/kapexampleoffitness.jpg)

Yeah dude, I know exactly what you mean. Just from the weight I lost it's amazing how much better my cardio got and my overall mobility and energy. When I was 226lbs, I had a really hard time doing 2 miles on the treadmill. Now 2 miles is like a warmup.
I almost don't even care about the vanity factor. I just want to have that feeling of being able to move better and being more agile. I remember when I was 18, I was 140lbs and I was able hop skip and jump everywhere I walked. Now I have to walk slow and try not to bump into shit and lose my balance lol.
I was down to 198 lbs 2 weeks ago and I'm actually just fluctuating from 198 to 201 now. So that means I have to stop fucking around. I have to figure out a balance with my work schedule. I'm lucky because for the most part I can eat like shit and not really gain weight because my job is also physical and I'm in the gym. But I sure as hell am not going to lose more weight at the rate I'm going

Were you guys aware that you were putting on a lot of weight? I didn't really notice at all when I did. I was still working out at the time so a lot of it was muscle, but I was still much heavier than I should have been because my eating was all wrong. I have jeans now that I bought back then that droop halfway down my ass now, if not flopping to my ankles completely. It's weird how it can creep up on you.
And I think it's true that the older you get, the harder it gets to change and improve your body, so it's cool that we all sorted things out sooner rather than later.

It is definitely weird how it can creep up on you. There have been times in my life when I've been active and there have been times when I've been lazy. But I never really noticed on a day-to-day basis. I have bathroom scales, and I'd stand on them one day and realise I was (say) a stone heavier than I was the same point the previous year.
Now I just try to plan around my sweet tooth. It might sound weird, but now I can put it into numbers (calories in & calories out - I have a spreadsheet, I'm sad to say) I can get a much better grasp of it.

I've been getting better at using a piece of fruit to substitute for the sweet tooth. There's times like 2 hrs after dinner where I want something sweeter and then I eat an apple and I feel better

Usually if I'm still hungry in the evening tea does it for me. I like some different kinds so I can mix it up.
Christmas is coming up so I imagine I'll go off the rails for a day or two. Nothing too wild though.

So... are we all fat again? ;D
This thread hasn't been touched in over a year. I've not been doing anything too strenuous in recent times. Exercising often enough and not eating crazily. I've recently just shed my winter coat and with the weather seemingly getting better I'll be out running again soon enough.
How have you all been getting on?

I'm a little overweight but I'm in the best shape I've been in since I was 25. I've been going strong again at the gym. I found out last month that my cholesterol is through the roof so I've been eating much better too.
I've actually recently got back into powerlifting again. I even did my best deadlift in my life on Monday. I did a raw 408lbs. It's not exactly a competition achievement for my body weight but considering I had herniated disks 13 years ago and again 4 years ago, I'm very happy with my progress. I even did a 225 clean and jerk last month which is also my raw highest(I did that weight in highschool using straps so it doesn't really count). I also did 318 on the bench for 2 reps 2 months ago.
Basically, I'm the overall strongest I've ever been in my life at 33 years old. So im definitely happy about that. But I'm definitely far from being my strongest pound for pound, considering I'm 217lbs right now. It really does get harder to lose weight when you get older. I was doing what I'm doing now 8 years ago and 20 lbs fell right off. I've been pretty strict for 4 weeks now and only lost like 1 pound. But I did lose a belt size. Also been doing 2 miles on the treadmill 3 days a week

Like Champ, I also gained some weight and have spent some extra time in the gym lately. Unlike Champ, I've been losing the weight. I ended the holidays at 220, when I left the gym this morning I weighed in at 206. Another 11-16 lbs and I'll be happy. But my cardio feels like its at its best since I left Basic Training (it will never be that good again.)
Here's to us dudes in our thirties learning the hard way our metabolism really does die a horrible death.

Wow, no posts at all last year. That is amazing. Time really does fly.
I was as low as 164 lbs last spring. Over the summer I did a couple of 90-mile cycle rides, as well as a few 50-mile trips. But I got lazy after that (not to mention that my job is a LOT busier/demanding during the spring/summer than it is in the autumn/early winter) and by the end of the year I was back up to 180. I've set myself a target of 500 total miles running over the course of the year and I'm happy to say I've made a good start, and I've already dropped 6lbs back to 174.
Unlike Champ and Naitch, I have no intention of joining a gym. lol
edit: also, I wish I hadn't scanned up the thread and saw that picture of Sarita because it's turned me into a drooling loser again
