Yikes. It's funny you mention that about the Wrestlemania main event. My first reaction to reading the (highlights of) the interview was "he's never coming back". But I saw a good point made: by walking out when he did, he's actually made himself even more valuable than ever before. I mean, I'll just quote someone else here: I hope CM Punk becomes some sort of WWE tall tale. During promos people would speak of the legend of a great man who recently held the title for the longest in 25 years. But they dare not speak his name, because if his name is said three times he will magically appear and put people in a slumber. That was a funny post, but there is a lot of truth in it. These assholes are on TV every week, 75% of them are doing the Layla Gimmick, there's no mystery any more. I'm sure he won't be back any time soon, but give it a year or two, he'll be back to 100% (well, as much as ex-wrestlers ever can be 100%) and maybe start getting the itch back. Triple H vs CM Punk is a money match now. He can demand Brock Lesnar money, and they can dangle that Wrestlemania main event in his face. I don't think it's a given that he will come back, but I think it's a possibility when there's money to be made. Example: Punk is a mystery entrant in the 2016 (i.e. the year after next) Rumble, goes to the 2016 Wrestlemania Main Event, Triple H dicks him over in said main event (hey, he never said he wanted to WIN the WM Main Event - just to headline it), and you've got 2016 Summerslam sold.

Honestly, as far as punk main eventing wrestlemania, the only reason he never main evented Wrestlemania is because there wasn't one year where he was the guy for the spot. Even when he held the title, main events at PPVs felt cheap if he was in it. The guy is so fucking overhyped it's not even funny. He was GOOD but he wasn't great, certainly not what he thinks of himself. At the end of the day he's just a douche bag with a big mouth

I just finished that podcast and I have a couple of thoughts.
1. This is the big one, if what he said about the WWE doctors is true, than they need to fix that shit like yesterday. That's it, it has nothing to do with Punk, but you can't have your dudes having staph infection.
2. I do think HHH sent him his walking papers on purpose on his wedding day. At first I thought it was a happy coincidence, I mean after all, they would eventually have to send him those papers, but than I remembered his wife works for WWE so, HHH probably knew.
3. I get why Punk doesn't like the fans in public, they are a bunch of rude motherfuckers. Ambushing him at airports and at the gym. People need to grow up in general. If all the fans were cool with celebrities, no one would have any issues.
4. Punk talked enough about money to make me think he will eventually be back, maybe not full time, but I could see a Rock or Brock Lesnar like schedule in his future.
5. As great as he tells us he is, I think the biggest thing people will remember him for is the walk out. Not the longest title reign in 25 years, not any particular match (I do think the title match with Cena where he left for like a month afterwords could be the exception), and probably not a "pipe bomb" promo. The term pipe bomb will probably be more well known that the Straight Edge Society and dude who went to ECW that was addicted to competition.

Like I said, he's clearly not a fan of Triple H, and it wouldn't be surprising if the feeling's mutual. Wrestler is petty asshole, shocker. 4 - ha. Yeah. I think you might be onto something there. 5 - I think you're right on this, too. Walking out is the most memorable thing he's done because since Austin did it in '02, how many big names have actually done it? I can't think of any? Anyhow, apparently there's a part 2: 411mania.com/wrestling/cm-punk-calls-vince-mcmahons-apology-a-publicity-stunt/This part was interesting to me: This independent contractor thing seems to pop up every now and again, you wonder if the wrestlers will ever crack it. Because the Fed is the only game in town, they don't want to risk burning that bridge.

Punk also said he's worked through injuries without telling doctors. How much is he REALLY telling us about the staph infection incident?
The thing with the wedding, even if it was on purpose, is the actual date he received his papers on even relevant? As far as I'm concerned he fired himself a long time ago. When he received his papers really doesn't matter at this point

Back to Punk updates: Punk signed with the UFC. After reading a handful of interviews with him, I don't see this going well for him. I have a higher belt than he does in BJJ, and you I'm not clamoring for a fight at a high level. I think Dana White played Punk for higher buyrates harder than Punk played White for money. Short version of this, after I heal, after I take you Bobby, I'm going to out BJJ Punk.

lol
I saw that earlier in the week, I thought I would wait till you chimed in Naitch. Do you watch The Simpsons? You know the episode where Homer becomes a boxer, and his first fight is against a hobo from a boxcar who keeps checking on his bindle? Punk's first opponent is going to be like that, isn't it?
I was surprised to find out that Punk is already 36 years old. I know he's ambitious and driven but I really don't get this. But hey, all power to him. At least we'll get to see someone beat the shit out of him for real.

Yeah, I would fully expect Punk's first UFC fight to be Phil "CM Punk" Brooks (How he'll be announced as) vs Glass Joe. His second fight will be vs a washed up big name. Maybe a returning name like Chuck Lidell, Randy Couture, Matt Serra and Matt Hughes are my thoughts for most likely. Than it will be Punk vs someone in the top 10 of his weight class (assuming he gets wins). If he fights at middleweight, that top 10 will murder him, it's all pissed off Brazalians that want a title shot because they all hate Chris Weidman (the current champ, if you want more story on why Brazil hates him, I'll give it to you.) If he fights at welterweight, I think he has a better chance as that division is in the process of rebuilding itself. Looking at Punk's experience, while looking at his recent interviews, he's fucked against the worst fighter in the UFC. For standup he has trained in various amounts in Kempo and Muay Thai. He has never sparred though. His ground game is a white belt in BJJ. BJJ is fun, I don't blame him for rolling around and doing this, but he has never even participated in a tournament. It isn't hard to get in one and it's free to participate in. He has roughly 8 months to get up to a pro level, which is not a long time.

Yeah, I think Punk is going to need Paul Heyman in his corner for his fights with a fan strapped to his back for when the going gets tough.
I don't see this going well for him. Looking at his frame I think he can probably cut to 170lbs, and if he can he definitely should. I don't even think it's a sure thing for him to beat his first couple of opponents who will likely be 1-1 or 1-2 type fighters. When he feels a real body shot for the first time, or gets clipped on the chin by any skilled martial artist, he's not going to like it. Especially if it's at middleweight.
At least WWE bringing in The Rock for a while was a sure thing with a tried and tested ex-wrestler. Punk is really just a regular guy with an interest in MMA being brought in to compete because he is famous. He's the MMA equivalent to Snookie taking a WrestleMania spot from 90% of the other wrestlers and getting to compete in order to drum up some interest and publicity. He's worse than a part-time WrestleMania wrestler like the Rock.

Stupid boring reality. It's funny you mention Snookie. Everyone was ragging on that booking (I wasn't a fan either), but she absolutely nailed the handspring-back-elbow-smash in her match. 100x better than Kelly Kelly's. I don't see Punk doing something that good in MMA. No Mega Tycoon Wash for his car, is what I'm saying.

CM Punk is an asshole. The last couple of times I heard that guy talk I can't get over what a jerk he is and how delusional he really is. I don't even want to see him come back. V was totally right about him being a smug douche bag

Does anyone else get the feeling that Punk isn't going to fight anymore? He was supposed to fight three months ago at first. They still haven't even named an opponent or even a fight date yet for him.

Perhaps he's realised he's out of his depth? I don't actually think he has any serious real-fighting background, does he? I imagine training from his starting point would be vastly different than a guy like Lesnar, it's going to take a while to get to even boxcar-hobo level.
The other problem he has is that the interest in a CM Punk match is going to diminish the longer it goes on. It's nearly 2 years since he walked out. If he had beaten a scrub by now, even a total walk-over, he would at least have been sustaining interest. People are still going to care when he does fight, but it's not going to be as hot as it would have been 6 months ago.
I could be completely wrong though.

I actually agree that the interest is dying. Before he left WWE I believe he was a white belt in BJJ, which is not impressive. By not impressive, I mean anyone can walk into a gym tomorrow and get a white belt. He has the ability to train 5-7 days a week so he has to be getting better, but like you said, it's a long up hill battle. To put this in perspective of how long it takes to go from nothing to a fight, at my gym that I go to, if you want to be in a MMA fight, amateur or pro, the gym won't normally sign off to the two year mark. Two years isn't a magical time where they sign off, that's just where the average is when they feel someone is ready to fight someone else for the first time. And those guys I feel like are killers right at the first time they walk in.
I know Punk is currently also writing comic books for Marvel, I think that is a better life approach in life for him.
