Thanks for that massive screed you wrote, Champ. I did read this earlier in the week. I actually already knew a bit of this (salt is bad, pulses are good etc), but there was a lot of interesting stuff in there.
There was something MS said that interested me too:
I'm too fucking lazy to go jogging in this weather, but I do have an exercise bike. I know it's nowhere near as rigorous as jogging or swimming etc, but it's easier and more convenient for me to pound away on it while I'm watching the game and listening to music. So does it make more sense to do longer sessions less often, as opposed to shorter sessions more frequently?

No problem. I have a lot of interest in body transforming and nutrition. I just wish i was following my own advice a little more these days. I've been working out bu only like 20 minutes a day, 3 days a week. It's not enough right now

Basically, what you've eaten and what is in your system is being used as fuel as you are exercising. So, for example, if you are doing some moderate riding on an exercise bike, you'll burn through your fuel first, then once that is used up you need to start using your reserves, which is the fat. Apparently this kicks in after about twenty minutes. However, if you are going at a higher intensity, you'll obviously be able to speed things up. So instead of going at a moderate pace for thirty minutes, you can increase the intensity at points throughout a shorter work-out. Again as an example, after you have stretched and have rode for maybe two minutes on the bike, go at it really hard for a full one minute before resorting back to your moderate pace. Do this in a cycle for maybe four or five times. Your work-out won't last over fifteen minutes but you will have pushed yourself so much more in that time that you will have burned off just as much as you might do in a thirty minute work-out without the high intensity.

Oh sorry I didn't even answer that. MS has good points. Also It really depends on what look or goal you're going for.
If you're trying to add muscle, you only want to work one muscle one day a week, but rip it up good. Then you just feed it protein for a week and just enough carbs to get you through. You still have to work out 4 - 6 days a week, depending on how long it takes you to conquer each muscle in a week. So it's like you do a different muscle each day but like 15 - 20 sets of all different exercises for that muscle. You also benefit from taking longer breaks in between each set. It's all about high intensity, heavy weight for each set. It's never about endurance. That's why you only need to do about 15 - 20 minutes of cardio every workout or even every other workout. The only point in cardio when you're trying to get big is to keep you in breathing shape for those workouts.
Now if you're trying to lose weight, it's better to focus on doing cardio. Do more light weights and work out each muscle, 2 - 3 times a week but only do like 4 - 8 sets for each muscles. The lean muscle and the many reps with light weight help burn the fat in that area. No matter what you're doing, you still want to stick with mainly complex carbs and protein. Also, the fats from olive oil, fish oil, flax oil, etc. Then you just munch as many greens as you want to satisfy the hunger or urge to eat. Celery is great. You can actually go into negative calories from eating celery. I think it's like 7 calories for a piece of celery and it takes like 10 calories to break it down by chewing. Something like that
If you're going for pure conditioning, you simply have to break your ass and make it your lifestyle. Like MMA training. You have to work EVERY muscle, EVERY day and do all forms of cardio while using those muscles. This has nothing to do with diet, losing fat, or burning muscle. This is simply about doing whatever it takes to turn yourself into a machine.
So it's like MS said, it really depends in the end what you're going for

Thanks. I'm just trying to lose a bit of weight. It's not like I'm particularly overweight or anything, but I don't want to let it get worse, and I'd like to burn off the belly. Basically I've become a bit Mickie James over the last year or so. I also figure that I'm 30 years old now and it's only going to get harder the longer I put it off.

I've been drinking one cup of it cold each day (really fast to get it over with) and I've been feeling awesome because of it.It could be a placebo effect but I don't care.

About once a week we make a two gallon jug of it so its easy for the wife to take on the go in the morning.
The grapefruit juice thing. Does it make any difference if its the yellow or pink kind?

Not even grapefruit juice dude, I'm talking about an actual grapefruit. BUT, the juice is perfect if that's your sugar dosage for the morning or immediately following a workout. Grapefruit juice is basically the best juice you can drink in the morning. The only problem with ANY juice is they are loaded with sugar. That's why they always say to eat the fruit. It's all natural. But the juice is fine as long as that's your morning drink or your "replenishing drink" after a workout. Also, follow the servings too. Usually juice is an 8 ounce serving. So the best thing to do is drink only 8 ounces. The natural green tea you can pretty much drink all day if you don't add sugar. My sugar intake, I've always decided on how I felt when I was running almost every day. I usually would just drink orange juice in the morning but sometimes you may notice yourself feeling weak after a workout. That's usually a sign that your body telling you to raise your sugar level a little. So every once in a while, you might notice yourself needing 2 servings of the juice in a day. Don't completely deplete yourself if that's the case
As far as color, I really don't know. I would have to say the pink, only because that's the natural color of grapefruit when you cut one open. Honestly, I really don't know the answer to that but I can tell you exactly how to decide. I really can't imagine how one can be much different from the other, but the best way to find out is, if you're in the juice section at the store, read the ingredients. Whichever has less carbs and sugars and more vitamin B, get that one. I'm positive you'll be picking the right color if you do it that way

Thanks bro. I've been eating grape fruit too. I've actually gone through so many grapefruits in the last couple weeks it might be cheaper to move to Florida and start an orchard.

How does the grapefruit alone treat you? If you don't feel depleted at all, don't even bother getting the juice. You can if you'd like, don't get me wrong. But if you don't need it and the piece of fruit alone helps, definitely stick with that. It's all natural and it's not like it's grown in pure sugar cane. That's what the juices are. Some have High Fructose Corn Syrup like Cranberry juice. Cranberries are another thing that's awesome for you. They're known to be great anti-oxidants. Same with Blueberries. But cranberry juice is very fattening. Even if you get canned cranberries and eat 1 or 2 slices a day and wrap up the rest and stick it in the fridge. One can last you 3 to 7 days

One thing I feel is very important with trying to reach any goal is to have a plan to follow and consult. It doesn't have to be rigid and adhered to every single day, but if you plot your path you at least know what it is that you are doing, why you're doing it and where it is taking you. Sometimes if you don't really have a plan and a goal to aim for it can be easy to slack off on what you're doing and maybe even give up with it.
