Don't feel to bad GLF. I've voted three times now too. For Presidential Elections anyways. I vote every year now. The yearly ballots have a lot of overlooked stuff that people don't seem to care about that effect them big time.

I think you mean, V lol
I've voted for the presidential elections ever since I could vote. My first time wasn't til I was 21 because Bob Dole ran against Clinton when I was 17. So I was a year off. So I only voted 3 times myself.

Yeah, I'll probably vote. I'm not sure if I'll be voting for the douche, the turd, the used tampon or any of the supporting cast, but I'll probably vote anyway. Even with the heel turn, I still don't think Gordon and his neighbours will be needing to hire any removal vans next week. Whether that is good or bad, who knows? Like you said, our country is pretty screwed so none of them will make too much difference in all likelihood.

I know nothing about your elections. I've actually been SO behind with the newz lately. I've just been trying to get a lot of shit together. In a nutshell, exactly what's going on? Who's running against who and who sucks?

I know nothing about your elections. I've actually been SO behind with the newz lately. I've just been trying to get a lot of shit together. In a nutshell, exactly what's going on? Who's running against who and who sucks? Okay, I'll give this a go. You'll appreciate that I'm simplifying somewhat, even in this short summary (which actually ended up being way longer than I meant, but I can't be arsed to edit it. Just don't read it if it's boring, I won't mind! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) ) Gordon Brown (Labour party) is the incumbent. He took over from Tony Blair a couple years ago. Historically, Labour were socialist-left. After Blair they're more centre ground. On the one hand, Lab have been in power 13 years, so familiarity breeds contempt. On the other hand, Brown has portrayed himself as a fiscally-prudent, experienced hand. Which, with the economy in the shitter is his strongest selling point... if you believe him. David Cameron (Conservative) is the centre-right candidate. Historically, Conservatives are a bit similar to your Reps (minus the religion): smaller government (pro-privatisation), euro-sceptic (i.e. not hot on the European Union), not keen on immigration. Cameron has positioned himself as a "caring conservative", and adopted an environmental-friendly position (which will go straight in the bin now that we can't afford it with the economy in the shitter). Nick Clegg (Liberal Democrat) is centre-left. Historically they've been the third party, but they've made up a lot of ground after Clegg made a very good impression in the three leadership debates. They used to be a vaguely tax-and-spend party, but with the economy in the shitter they've had to shift away from that. They're an unknown-ish quality, but they might be an attractive choice for people fed up with the two main parties. The main problem is that the economy is in the shitter, as I might have mentioned, and none of the three parties have come clean about where they're going to make the cuts in govt. spending or rises in taxes. They've outllined some cuts/taxes, but we know once they get in power there's going to be shitload more. So picking any of these guys is a bit of a stab in the dark. Also, what is going to happen is the two main parties aren't going to win enough seats to form a goverment on their own. The Libdems are probably going to win waayyy more seats than they usually do. So we're in for a coalition government, which is BOUND to make things even easier!

Oh I read it all. I also took your advice with my long posts. If you noticed, I'm spacing out my paragraphs much more frequently. I noticed it makes the posts easier to read instead of clusterfuck rambling
As long as I recall understanding something about politics it's been that way with every presidential election in the US too.
The only time I ever voted for someone that I WANTED in office was Rudy Giuliani to remain mayor of NYC. He cleaned up Manhattan SO fuckin well! He made such 180 improvements
For example, this park called, "Bryant Park" in Times Square used to be referred to as "Needle Park" because of the junkies and crime. Now it's a place where mothers take their children for picnics and even little live concerts for benefits are hosted there now too.
Then 9/11 came around and he did everything possible to keep the city safe. He was just simply the right guy for the job. He was the first guy people were rallying up to allow him to run for a third 4 year term. The idea was turned down. But what pisses me the fuck off is, Bloomberg got a third term. I can't understand how this guy got a third term and Giuliani didn't

I think the best thing to do after there isn't a clear result is to throw Brown, Cameron and Clegg into a ring together and let them fight it out. Triple threat last man standing match. With the fresh heel turn, I would predict a Gordon Brown victory via some sort of underhanded tactics.

[cuts out part I got wrong] So we're in for a coalition government, which is BOUND to make things even easier! And lo, it came to pass. I'm mostly depressed at what a ridiculous system we have here. One party with 36% of the vote gets 306 seats, another with 23% only gets 57. Not to mention that we have an unelected (albeit notional) head of state and an unelected second house. Great fricking example to be setting to the rest of the world. To conclude this post: Cena sucks.

I have no idea how the UK system works other than it seems like the voters cannot effect change by voting.

We have 650 seats, first-past-the-post. The two large parties tend to bunch up their votes in their "heartlands" (Labour in the cities, Conservative in the countryside and more affluent areas), so they can get more than 50% of the seats with just 35% of the popular vote. Meanwhile, parties can get a million votes and win no seats because they don't get enough in any one constituency to win "first-past-the-post".

This election really proved just how useless the system that we use is. In my area the only two candidates with any chance of winning the seat were the Labour and SNP candidates, so many people when voting will feel like they have to vote for their preference of the two, even if they wanted to vote for another candidate and support another party.

Our votes said that we didn't want any of the parties or their leaders running the country, so we got two of them. Lol.
Oh well.

Obviously TNA was booking the election. Now the wacky tag team partners who can't stand each other will hold the belt until they fall out, and the title is put on the line at another PPV in November.
