I'm discussing the categories that I know. But I mentioned earlier Hendrix should be on that list. I'm not even a huge Hendrix fan but I know he deserves to be there. It's kind of like I'm doing my best no to be biased

Hendrix should be on that list but I just can't thow a Hendrix album on that list, since I don't own one. If you name me a Hendrix album I can't tell you what songs are on which so its just dumb of me to name one.

I've not listened to Hendrix in a while, but my personal favourite album of his is "Are you experienced".

I picked up Tool's Lateralus the other day (they didn't have Undertow in stock, so I downlo... uh legally acquired it from another source, haven't listened to it yet). Very good. I really like Parabol/Parabola and The Patient. I was reading the notes on the CD in store, it said it was recorded in Hollywood so for some reason I picture sunny LA with the palm trees and shit while listening to it. Dunno why.
On the other hand, I'm sure they had good reason for making it so long that my CD player can't play the last track, you know, like, it's about anti-commercialism, man, or you know, whatever. So I found the last four tracks rather needless. But yeah, really good up to that point, two thumbs up for sure.

Lateralus is a great album. The double Parabola tracks are my favorite tracks on the album too.

I'd say thats Tools weakest album (if you don't count Salivial after track 3). Thats where they went WAY to artsy is that album. Not that you can find it in stores anymore. Limited release and all that. If I had to rank the Tool albums I guess I would do it like
1. Undertow (love every track, espically the hidden one) 2. Aenima (Might have been number 1 if it wasn't for all the nothing tracks) 3. Opiate (Love the two live tracks, espically the intro to one of them where Maynard tells security to get that Bob Marley looking mother fucker out of there. He was talking about the singer from Rage Against the Machine) 4. 10,000 Days (To many nothing tracks) 5. Salivial (Three awesome live tracks followed by a bunch of nothing and a shitty Led Zepplin cover.)

Undertow, Aenima, and Opiate are my favs without a doubt. Like I said, I like Lateralis but it definitely didn't rock socks like the earlier material that's for sure

Do you know who we somehow completely forgot? The Foo Fighters first album. I think its they're best effort and each album by them is a little worse then the last.

Dave Grohl is a hit writing genius. The more years that go by I appreciate Foo Fighters more and more. They always have a song that sticks in your head. It's catchy as shit

I like the Foo Fighters, but like is probably as far as I would go. I don't really understand how a lot of people are crazy for them. Their songs are catchy. Dave Grohl isn't really much of a singer though, especially when you hear him singing live, he seems just like any other drunk guy at a karaoke.

I agree with MasterSnit, they're OK. I think they're successful because they're the Non-Threatening Boys of the rock scene. They don't try to weird you out or make you think too hard, it's just catchy pop with a grunge flavour.

It's more about the chemistry. They just know how to make all of their songs work. Look at Axl Rose and James Hetfield. They aren't "great" singers but they front two of the best rock bands to ever come out

Hetfield isn't but Axl has a great voice for rock songs.

I'd say thats Tools weakest album (if you don't count Salivial after track 3). Thats where they went WAY to artsy is that album. I wouldn't say it's artsy. My main complaint is the length. I definitely got the feeling on some of the tracks that they were thinking "if we don't stretch this track out to 8 minutes it isn't ART!!!". I get the same feeling on Metallica's Justice album too. Longer doesn't equal more worthy. Nobody seems to write great 2-minute songs any more.

Songs that drag on needlessly annoy me, too. Talking of 2 minutes songs, and songs that have withstood the test of time, this one definitely has. uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-ub4ysYBnhI
