So last Friday myself and Mrs. Naitch went to a MMA show for some promotion called Fight To Win. If you've never heard of them don't worry about it, they're pretty much a south west US promotion.
Anyways we arrive to the building and I noticed something. Everyone is wearing black tshirts for fighter camps. Team Prophecy and a bunch of other places I've never heard of. I see Mrs. Naitch is wearing a green and white striped shirt and I'm wearing a Tool shirt. Later I also find out they are only serving beer. Great, I don't want to see most of these guys drunk. Anyways........
The show starts with a bunch of 0-0 guys debuting in the sport. Its awesome. One guy looks like his carrier is going to end at 0-1 because, hes just not that good. And then it hits me. I hate this crowd. They aren't active and they aren't fun to be around. Just pretending the know everything about everything. Worse then that guy at a WWE show that just yells all the names of the moves as they happen.
I'll take my MMA on TV for now on and my wrestling live as mush as possible. At least wrestling crowds are fun.

Yeah it's true. Even when you even watch UFC on tv the crowds definitely don't light up like the WWE crowds. WWE crowds can be a lot of fun. When I went to the Bash I was thinking, I'm not going to get involved in any stupid chants but somehow the crowd helps you get rolling and you can't help but get involved. Also, when you don't hear announcers you realize exactly what these guys are doing to get eachother over. I never appreciated restholds as much as I did live because when a heel slaps on a resthold for a while you start getting bored and pissed off and it almost forces you to cheer for the face. Guys can be good in the ring but people don't realize exactly how intelligent you have to be to work a crowd. Finlay was so fuckin great at that when I was at a house show. Kane kept going after him and Finlay spent about 5 minutes on the outside and wouldn't get in the ring to the point where the crowd wanted to throw daggers at him. Wrestling really is so much more fun live. I mean, I've never been to an MMA event but I already know exactly what you're talking about. The MMA crowds are too smarky and the wrestling fans just get into the show and have fun

Wrestling crowds are there to have a good time whereas a lot of the crowd at UFC or MMA events I've seen just seem to care about looking cool. I've pretty much had it with MMA now, I watched for a wee while but it doesn't really do anything for me.

First to Champ (he replied first)- Don't bother to go to a MMA event. Those black things holding the cage together hinder the action. It just blocks so much of your view. And your probably like me where you need an announcer to help you with the moves.
MS-It is an acquired taste. I enjoy watching it. Its just something about two guys with a great deal of fight knowledge duking it out that I enjoy. As long as it isn't boxing. Thats boring to me. I guess I jut like it for what it is. But just like wrestling I won't buy the PPVs, but theres plenty of free stuff on TV to satisfy my needs.

I will watch now and again but I don't care if I miss anything. I enjoy boxing occasionally, the glory days of the heavyweight division is well and truly over, though. If you want to see a good boxing match stay away from the heavyweights.

Im like Naitch I like the aspect of two guys with lots of fighting knowledge trying to get that one move/punch to end the other guy. I only watch the fight itself to stay away from the 20 minute build up, whoring of t-shirts/websites/merch etc. which are annoying.
I've always thought that the cage would be really distracting from the fight itself, kinda like a hell in a cell where if you were in the crowd live, it might seem like a cool thing but actually its better watching it at home cos you get to see everything that goes on.

The cage itself isn't bad, GLF. Its the padding/cage binding thing that takes away. Its so much bigger then wrestling cage bindings it does take away. Depending on where the fights went on the mat at times I could only see half they're bodies.

That's true. I didn't even think of that(all the black paddings and lines blocking the view). That alone will make it harder to enjoy. Even when I was at Summerslam 97, Trips and Mankind opened up the show with a cage match and a cage match isn't nearly as fun live as it is on tv. You can't see everything and I was really close

I dont like wrestling live either, the announcers add so much to it.

That's kinda surprising but also not so.
It seems like half the people who are fans of MMA are like "Man that's so extreme! Look at my extreme Afflicted T-Shirt. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the most extreme, this shirt is a 9.5!"

I didn't know that MB. But I'm not really connected with the MMA people of the world.
SM, I kinda like the wrestling live, just something about being able to chant and talking with people having fun I enjoy. But I 'm not going to try to convince you to go to a live show of any sort.

I still feel as thought the only WrestleMania I have not truly seen is WrestleMania 23, even though I was there. The commentators and the production really does add a lot, it's a totally different experience when you are there live. Live shows are fine as it's maybe only once a year you get the chance to go, and that's enough.

You have to take live for what it is. The thing you learn to appreciate, as I mentioned before, is the way the superstars work the crowd. When I was at the Great American Bash in July I pretty much just sat there and tried to pay attention to what the guys were trying to do. I noticed myself getting pissed at the heels for making the matches boring by keeping it so one sided and then when the face would retaliate, you would cheer because it was like "it's about time". They really get you to back up the faces. It's pretty cool. You almost have to take a different mind frame when you watch live. Then either tape the event or buy the dvd when it comes out and listen to the announcers. It's actually pretty wild seeing the differences

I love live events. Wrestling fans are a lot of fun. People will laugh with you and everything. And I've never felt the need to check my wallet at a wrestling show. At the MMA show I didn't trust anyone. Bunch of shady looking motherfuckers.
