Anyone been following this?
Does anyone know or have any idea exactly how much info they have? I'm wondering if it is more recent stuff or if they go back a long way. Maybe we'll find out who really killed JFK and things like that.
The guy that runs the show seems to be being stitched up now though. Team America are after his ass.

That's the first time I heard about it. Then again, I'm an ignorant as4hole and don't pay attention to anything. Some may say I live in a cave. What's it about?

Get your reading glasses on Champ this might be a long one.
Wikileaks is a site that was formed for whistle blowers to put incriminating evidence on corporations/Governments/Military/etc. But since day 1 they have put they're on spin on things. They have very little problem leaving out key facts or cutting out important parts of videos that show the real truth of the matter. They have done three things that have pissed off our Government in the last 18 months.
1. They released a video of a US Army Blackhawk shooting and killing reporters in Iraq. Thats what they told you. There were reporters in the crowd of people being shot up, but the crowd being shot at were terrorists with RPGs getting ready to shoot at the helicopter.
2. They released several thousand documents on the Afghanistan war. They claimed there were war crimes in the documents. The only useful thing for the terrorists were the names of informants in Afghanistan. They were all murdered within a week.
PFC Bradly Manning decided that he was tired of being picked on for being gay so he hopped on a computer and copied this shit to CDs and gave it away and is now in a military brig.
3. A couple weeks ago they released a shit ton of documents that someone leaked from the White House. All that happened with that was he released a bunch of countries secrets and managed to piss off the U.S., England, Iran, China, South Korea, Switzerland and probably some more.
What gets me is the reaction. There is obviously two very different reactions going on. Theres the liberal people who think its great because now we have a "transparent" Government (to a degree anyways). And there are other people that know that we don't want everything out there. Side 1 is pretty dumb and thinks we're the only Government keeping secrets so they make me laugh a little.

I like the idea of wikileaks but I don't like the execution. The guy behind it is a complete douchebag, and he's using it to wave his dick around and be a bigshot (as well as pushing a particular viewpoint in some cases, rather than letting the evidence speak for itself).
In theory, if something scandalous happens, even in a warzone, then it's right that it be brought to public knowledge, BUT wikileaks' MO is ridiculous. Thousands and thousands of documents being released in bulk - there's no way they've gone through every document to make sure blameless people aren't being put in harm's way. It's negligence for the sake of making a point.

V, there is no evidence of anything but a war going on in the Afghanistan stuff. No war crime stuff. Most of it (at least what the news sources have printed) that it was things on defense postures and attacks that happened to the base. The only Asnage has accomplished is getting Afghan informants murdered by Al Quedia.

Aye, I said "in theory". IF something scandalous happens then it should be brought to our attention. But that isn't what wikileaks does. It just dumps tens of thousands of documents on a website without any regard for the consequences.
See, the problem I have with wikileaks is that clearly an incident happened there. But rather than show the evidence in a neutral manner, they initially provided an edited version of events... and then called it "collateral murder". Which is just insanely misleading. That's essentially leading people to come to a conclusion before they've even seen the evidence. The truth was a lot less sensational: in the middle of a warzone, a helicopter mistook some reporters carrying cameras for guns, and shot them. It was a mistake. Mistakes happen in a warzone just like any other profession. While it is obviously very sad that some innocent people died, I just can't see how people can act outraged over it. Wikileaks has no credibility as an impartial source if it has such an obvious agenda, and decides to present a story like that the way they did.

You seem to have a keen interest in all this stuff, Naitch.
Don't you guys think it was only a matter of time before something like this happened? Once information is digitalised, no matter how secure it may be, there is always the chance of it getting in the wrong person's hands once, then almost instantly being made available to everyone.
There was an X-Files episode where Mulder is seeking information that he has searched for all his life, and when he finally finds it it is in some huge underground tunnel with what appears to be miles of huge file cabinets all filled with confidential documents. If that was today the whole series could have been condensed into two minutes of Mulder sitting down at his computer and logging on to the internet. I'm all for freedom of information, but there are some things that would cause far more bother than good if they were to come out. It is both exciting and scary though how documents that, just a decade or two ago, would be locked away and never seen by more than probably a dozen pairs of eyes, can now be zapped onto a USB stick and presented to everyone on the planet to read.

You seem to have a keen interest in all this stuff, Naitch. I do. The fallout of this fiasco is going to interesting. The people who gave away this information can be giving the death penalty if tried for treason. Like you guys already know, there is a reason this shit wasn't available. Most people are good, but the bad ones are the ones that normally do something. And wikileaks gave them the military's playbook for when they get attacked at base and other protocols. That was sloppy security on someones end.

I think this thing has grown into an Interwebs vs Government battle for control of the Internet. Most people except Terrorists don't care what was in the leaks. ![](http://www.threadbombing.com/data/media/2/team_america.gif)

I don't know about that SM. There is a pretty heated group of people that are now cyber attacking places like Amazon and Mastercard because they pulled they're support from Wikileakes today. Estimated at 6,000 people going at it. They even brought down the Mastercard site for a couple hours.
The consequences of all this will be real interesting now. Its funny reading the liberals side of things. Its disheartening to read the conservative side of things.

LOL. I wonder what Assange's distress signal is for when Team America are hot on his heels.
One way or another I think all the info that they have will be released.

The sheer hypocrisy coming out of Assnage now is amazing. Hes getting all pissed because someone leaked some shit on him.
Also, (this is not a joke) yesterday the White House set up an organization called the Wikileaks Task Force or WTF.
