The tournament as a whole wasn't the best.
The final wasn't a great football game but it was an interesting contest, at least in the second half. Robben had two really good chances and he bottled it. There were a lot of chances, in fact.
Don't know if Spain were the best team in the tournament, they lost to Switzerland, after all. Germany played the best football. But Spain got the job done, and that's all that matters.
I actually thought the tournament as a whole was one of the better ones, once the boring first batch of group games were out of the way. It was a shitload better than Italia '90, for sure.
I remembered today that Scotland got drawn against Spain in their qualifying group for the European Championships. We just can't catch a break. Spain are going to make us their mamasitas. Oh well, roll on Brazil 2014.
Yeah, I just looked it up too, you've got the Czech Republic as well. England's group is Switzerland, Bulgaria, Montenegro and Wales. With that easy-ass qualifying group, now seems like the perfect time to bring in some new blood into England, because it doesn't matter how good the established players are they just can't produce at the crucial moment.
Although with the European Championship increasing in size to 24 teams in 2016, it's getting to the stage where you might as well say "fuck it" and have biennial World Cups.
