In the 80's, especially in WWF, lots of wrestlers had a distinctive character, be it Policeman, escaped convict, Mountie, Tax man, Insane sexually repressed homosexual warrior from another dimension, etc.
Today, the Undertaker is, and probably will forever be my favourite wrestler. I also hold a fond place in my heart for other great characters such as Goldust, Muhammed Hassan, Pirate Paul Burchill, Simon Dean, etc. All guys that would blend in easily into 80's WWF.
Lots of guys are just so bland these days. Snitsky was a baby killing, mother traumatising, BBR daddy owning guy, just trying to clear his name for something that wasn't his fault. He was a big guy with character, but they absolutely ruined him. Even after seeing Mike Knox the first few times, you could see that he had personality but he only shows up now and again, but I feel he's another guy who would be a good 80's-like wrestler if given the chance. Instead of Mike Knox, if he was wrestling in the 80's he'd simply be named as Serial Rapist.
I just get annoyed with the lack of imagination and comedy, intentional or not, in todays WWF/WWE.

Honestly, no. I don't miss Raws filled with established stars vs jobbers at all with main events like Marty Jennety vs 123 Kid.

Yeah, I agree, matches like Marty Jannetty Vs 123 Rat Kid makes me break out in a cold sweat. I miss the more out-there characters from those times. Everyone was unique. Now, guys like Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, Kenny Dykstra, etc, may as well just be one person!

I just perfer my wrestlers to not have other occupations besides wrestling. It makes no sense why a tax man would want to wrestle on top of that job. No what I'm saying? The only exception should be Ralphus because being part of the Jericho Personal Security is an honor.

Jericho is a great example, he used to have Ralphus and the Jericho Personal Security, and Jerichoholic Ninja's, then Ultimate Harold Finkle but now he's just an aging metro-sexual with clothes stolen from a cyber gay bar and a bon-jovi haircut. There's just not nearly enough creativity with as many characters as there should be.

Jericho simply lost his edge. Now he's a little boy with a belt

I think Vince just had Jericho tone it down since day 1. He was never really at WCW Jericho heights of awesome in WWE.

He's also lost a lot of that fan connection too

Yeah, fan connection seems to be a lost art in Wrestling. The wrestler with the best fan connection is Jim Duggan because of a simple "Ho!" and "USA". None of the younger schmucks under 50 can hold a candle to Hacksaw's intelligence and ability to bring the fans into the show.

You better be careful with those mean words or Punk will make you Go 2 Sleep. Seriously, that dude gets a reaction. Then again I'm expecting Punk to be a main eventer in the next five years. And yes we will have exactly 47 Punk vs Cena PPV main events.

Yeah, talking about perceptions in the other thread, I remember that PPV where he beat Rock and Austin on the same night. That was good stuff. In fact that was the last wrestling I saw for a few years. When I came back he was just doing the same old shtick over and over. Shame really. And no, nobody's longing for the 80's. Unless they do the Wall Street story of course: Orton vs Cena vs JBL vs HHH... it could still happen... oh who am I kidding. They need to stop wasting their time trying to be "edgy" or "shocking" and spend that time trying to think of plausible or interesting stories and characters. It's not rocket science.

I definitely think there should be a couple more of Goldust, Boogeyman, Papa Shango types going around. Its great for ring psychology and making you stand out rather than being just some guy who runs down to the ring with a shit eating grin on his face and expects people to cheer for him cos his dad used to wrestle years ago (yes im looking at you DH Smith, Cody Rhodes etc.)

Some of you may want to start watching some more TNA with Rellik and Black Reighn and Black Machismo and Stone Cold Shark Boys running around.

Yeah, I like the characters in TNA. I just wish Black Reign would go back to being Goldust and start harassing Booker T again. Those two were brilliant together! ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)
