Now I know many people might consider Edge to be equal or a superior heel than Jericho, but as of right now, as far as I am concerned, Jericho is the man.
Edge has consistently been the best heel for the last few years but his character, I don't think has ever got to the level where Jericho is right now. Even in the last month or so as he was getting back to his old paranoid and maniacal ways, I still saw bits of the jaded Edge that had been running around with clones and fat Mexican chicks for the last year. Edge's motives are always driven to be the champion amongst his other competitors, doing what it takes to win and to succeed in his own selfish aspirations.
Jericho, on the other hand, is not concerned about being champion or achieving the glory that everyone else wants. Jericho is focused on something far deeper, something he may not even be able to explain. He has a twisted hatred, yet deeply repressed admiration for Shawn Michaels and it is driving him to destroy the man and the idol that is tearing him up inside.
Jericho has finally seen through the deceitful ways of the man who for years was his inspiration. He feels tricked and made a fool of because he now can finally see that Michaels is a liar, is a hypocrite, yet even though he claims to have changed his ways, he is still no better than the man he himself is now embarrassed to have been not so many years ago.
The fans can't seem to grasp this and while he can calmly and eloquently explain the facts and his opinions on Michaels, nobody wants to hear it. The fans are as bad, if not worse than Michaels and he is not shy about letting them know.
Jericho is a righteous man fighting a righteous battle to expose a magician, a wizard who has cast a spell on the fans to worship him and praise his actions which are undeserved of such acclaim.
While he may be taking the wicked path to prove his point, this obsession to rid himself of the man who has tormented his mind and his ideals remains unshaken. Unlike Edge who will weasel his way to his goals with as much assistance and as much lying and cunning as is necessary, Jericho is completely engrossed in his desire, not to succeed for his own benefit and legacy, but to destroy another man so he can cleanse and save himself.
