If you bought a Toyota Prius it would take you 4 to 5 years before you actually see a return on your money, and at that time you would probably need some serious maintenance and need to change the batteries, which I super costly.
The only pro about it is you are reducing the emissions to the atmosphere which is a great thing if you can afford it.
I'm all for the environment, but we need some cars that don't run on dinosaur juice period.

The new Honda $19,000 hybrid in 2009 will change the whole dynamic. Right now a Prius is 9000 more than an econo box or more.

Gas guzzler or not, I'm REALLY feeling the effects since it went to 4.25 a gallon. When it was 3.25 last year it was tough but I tried not to let it effect the places I had to be. Now, for example, my band rehearsal was cancelled today and that sucks for me because my rehearsals are my outlet every week and I feel like I need them. But then I suddenly felt a little better because I just saved much need gas money this week by missing one day. My rehearsal room is only 10 minutes give or take on traffic 1 way(20 minutes round trip) and that alone takes in between 5 and $10 in gas. When I pick up my girlfriend and drive back to my house, the round trip is 1:15 or an hour if theres no traffic. I'd have to put at least 15 in the gas tank just to get the needle back to where it was before I left the house. Then when I drive her back to work after the weekend and come home we're talking 30 dollars a week, $120 a month just so we can hang out. It's so fucked up. Fuck the new cars, they better start digging for some fuckin oil!

Its not they don't have oil Champ, they do. They have lots. This all goes back to the Nixon administration. We were selling weapons to Iran (you know to fight some assholes for us) and they said they didn't have the money. So Nixon told them to raise the price of gas a little. So that bit of stupidity has really snowballed. Then you add in the Future Markets speculators who think someday we may be out of oil. Key words there are some day and MIGHT. So basically we have a ton of oil and some people that don't mind fucking over the American public. I mean we gotta pay for Iraq somehow, right? FUCK the people that can't afford to heat they're houses this winter or the people that can't afford to drive to work and those whiny douche bags about to get foreclosed on. I mean deep down inside the Iraqi public loves democracy too right?

How do we lower the gas prices?
Thats a waiting game now. Eventually the oil companies contracts will run out with the future markets and they will have to negotiate. Hopefully we will have a much stronger representatives supporting the country at the time that will pressure the oil companies to stop being dick holes.
Option 2 is wait for the winter to be over. The foreclosure rate and complaints will be outstanding. People will have to chose between heating they're homes (thats oil too) or paying they're mortgage. Fortunately for most of those people in the colder climates of the country they can't be foreclosed on until the winter months are over. But when spring hits they are fucking homeless.
Seriously, whats this say about the Bush administration when you have to choose between a tank of heating oil (currently going to cost you about $750) to keep your kids warm during the winter and losing the house in the spring or letting everyone freeze to keep the house?
My question is, where are all the real protesters out there? The kind we had during 'Nam sticking up for whats right? No musicians or anything making a serious impact. I have some theories on that but thats for a different thread.

Naitch- if the draft was in effect again, you would see all the protesters back for sure! LOL
Don't worry fellas, gas prices usually drop during election time.

How much will gas prices drop though? In some South American countries right now, and I'm typing this, gas is 79 cents. Looks weird. No dollar amount in front of what you can find in your couch coushins. If they are selling at .79 that means they are also making a profit at .79. So lets actually do some hardballing with these countries and bring our price down. If we buy from these countries we are looking at most in a reasonable setting a $1.15 for us. Shipping and all that.
But no one really effected and that is on hard times can't use they're voice to protest. Its hard too when your working 2-3 jobs just to scrape buy with groceries and the mortgage. The truckers can't afford to drive to DC to protest. And the real fucking kicker is that those liberal douche bag college kids that really have a say agree with the high gas prices. Protecting birds and shit. Our college kids have gone from people with ideas and back bones (agree with them or not) too asshole trust fund babies. And those that might be on the street feel like they are doing us all a great big fucking favor about it by blogging about. Guess they didn't figure out that Bush isn't smart enough to log onto myspace.
And the big problem is that our senators and congress and President can't tell you the prices of shit. They don't fill up they're cars or by they're own groceries. They have a bunch of yes men doing that hoping that someday they might be judges or Secretary of Defense or some contrived asshole dream.

The price is dropping now. China and India can't afford to buy the vast amount of oil at this price that they where using.

Why are China and India dictating our prices though SM? That makes no sense. Are we buying from middlemen now? Heres a fun fact. Texas has so much untapped oil that we actually don't have to buy oil from anyone for decades. Its not like we are destroying anything scenic in Texas. If you've been to Texas (and I'm not saying you haven't, but just in case I used to live 15 minutes from it) you'll know that the towns are spread out. You enter a town, exit a town and 15 minutes through a desolate drive you enter another small shit town. Why people love it so much is really beyond me.

Well Oil is a commodity so no matter who pumps it, somebody is going to buy it on commodities exchanges!. So even if The US got 100% of our oil from Mexico, USA and Canada somebody would still buy Saudi oil and fund terrorism. It would take a completely new fuel like OILGAE to replace crude oil.
